Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos is close to becoming Arsenal’s second signing of the summer after Stephan Lichsteiner of Juventus.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos’ father confirmed that the Greece international will sign a three-year deal with Arsenal for €20 million. He also revealed that Manchester United were interested.
“It’s for three years plus one, which Sokratis arranges to, I think,” he said.
“Arsenal had talked [with Papastathopoulos] two years ago, but I do not know why the deal did not work then. There was interest from Manchester United but for July, he had to wait until July for United.”
“United have a very good relationship with Dortmund, the teams speak a lot, but Sokratis chose to go to Arsenal. He is happy, he is in England at the moment.”
