Manchester United are through to the FA cup final, after their 2-1 win over Tottenham in the Semifinal at the Wembley on Saturday. United will face the winner of the other semifinal between Chelsea and Southampton in the Final next month.
Dele Alli gave Tottenham an early lead when he netted home an inch-perfect pass from Christian Eriksen. January signing Alexis Sanchez equalised moments later for United, as he scored a fantastic headed goal on a Paul Pogba cross.
Ander Herrera’s goal in the second half proved to be the difference for Manchester United, as the Spaniard rifled past Michel Vorm from the edge of the box, to give United a 2-1 win over Tottenham and take them through to the final.
JOSE MOURINHO –
I am very happy. We deserved it. If we split the match into periods, we were the best team for many of these periods. Even when they had the ball, when we were winning we were totally in control. At half-time we spoke – we came back late for the second half because we spoke a lot – and organised ourselves. When you play away from home the supporters were phenomenal.
MAURICIO POCHETTINO –
I have no regrets. We competed and dominated the first half, it was completely unfair to be 1-1 at half-time. But in the second half they scored and the game was more competitive, even. We are trying to learn, always. But sometimes it’s not about learning, you have to have the capacity to beat your opponent. To create that, Tottenham needs more time – with me or someone else.

KEY OBSERVATIONS –
#1 Tottenham played some great football in the first 30 minutes and were all over Manchester United. They had many chances to make it 2-0 in their favour, but they couldn’t convert those opportunities and allowed Manchester United to get back into the game and finally win it. The exact same thing happened against Juventus in the Champions League round of 16 second leg, where they dominated Juventus at the start, created good chances, but never scored that second goal.
#2 Jose Mourinho had his fair share of criticism for Manchester United’s performance in the Champions League against Sevilla, but in this match the Portuguese was simply brilliant. His body language from the very start suggested that he wanted this win at all costs. He was shouting at Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba for not performing their defensive duties. He also deserves a lot of credit for Manchester United’s second half performance, where they allowed almost nothing to Tottenham in attack and played a very balanced game.
#3 Alexis Sanchez just loves Wembley. The Chilean has taken time to settle at Manchester United but he delivered a match-winning performance in this match. That finish for Manchester United’s first goal was not at all easy. Sanchez gained a lot of confidence from his goal and posed many problems for Spurs throughout. He was instrumental in United’s second goal too, using his strength to hold off Kieran Trippier before turning and picking out Romelu Lukaku on the edge of the box. United fans will be very happy, if Sanchez plays like this more often.
