FIFA approves VAR for the Russia World Cup

FIFA has officially confirmed the use of Video Assistant Referees(VAR) for this years FIFA World Cup in Russia.

VAR is already being used in the Italian Seria a and Spanish La Liga and FIFA finally decided to give it a go in this years World Cup.

Gianni Infentino, the FIFA President, confirmed the decision after a council meeting held in Bogota, Colombia.

“We are going to have our first World cup with Video Assistant referees. It has been approved and we are extremely happy with that decision,”the Fifa president said.

The FIFA World Cup will kick off on June 14, with the first match to be played between Russia and Saudi Arabia.
